Rally for a Cure at Wailea raises more than $5,700 for Breast Cancer Fight

25th October, 2005
Wailea, Maui, Hawaii – The first ever “Rally For a Cure” benefit golf event at the Wailea Blue Course on October 15 raised $5,740 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
The charitable event included an 18-hole competition of three-member teams teamed with one of Hawaii’s top female amateurs or golf professionals, closest-to-the-pin prizes, post-round pupu party, and a one-year subscription to Golf for Women magazine.  The event was part of a national fundraising effort that has attracted nearly one million participating golfers and contributed more than $16 million to the Foundation since 1996.
“This is the first time we’ve held this event here, and our hope was to raise $3,000,” said event organizer Carol Olsen.  “We’re thrilled to have almost doubled that goal, and we are so very grateful to all of our participants and sponsors.”
Breast cancer is the leading cause of death among women ages 35 to 54.  Rally For a Cure emphasizes the importance of early detection in the successful treatment of breast cancer, and supports the Foundation’s efforts to eradicate this life-threatening disease.
The Rally For a Cure golf event at Wailea Blue Course was sponsored by the Wailea Golf Club, The Mark & Debi Rolfing Charitable Foundation, EP Pro, Ashworth, and Golf for Women magazine.
